1.March of Dimes

• During Parent Teacher Conferences, Edison fundraised for the March of Dimes by selling their signature cut-outs for one dollar each. 
• The freshmen leadership class and other groups in Edison (Teens at Service and Science Honor Society) also assisted in selling these cut-outs to raise money and awareness for premature babies.

2.American Cancer Society

• The school community raised money to fund cancer research by selling daffodils on daffodil day

3.New York City Coalition Against Hunger

• Edison students volunteered at various soup kitchens throughout New York City during the Martin Luther King Jr. Serve-a-thon

4.City Harvest

• Edison students help local families and children in the community through a canned food drive

5.Common Cents

• The Edison community collects pennies for the annual penny harvest. 

6.The money collected allows us to receive community grants.  The grants were given to community organizations decided upon by student roundtables. 

7.Project Renewed Hope

• Sold chemistry review books to raise funds for Project Renewed Hope.  Founded by Charlotte Martin, Project Renewed Hope is an organization aimed at bettering conditions for women and children in Liberia, Africa

1. Peer Tutoring Program

• Edison High School’s peer tutoring program is carried out by both honor societies, aimed at offering individualized academic support to students in need
• Peer tutoring is available during lunch periods in the cafeteria tutoring room

2. Peer Mentoring Program

• Members of the New York State Science Honor Society are paired off with incoming freshmen.
• Upperclassmen guide freshmen through their high school transition while providing tutoring services

• Pi Day is sponsored by the Math Department to increase math spirit and raise awareness. Staff members bring in pies at are sold to students to raise money for a scholarship
• The scholarship is awarded to one senior that has done exceptionally well in mathematics throughout high school. This year, Edison raised $1, 000 through Pi Day.

11. Annual Science Research Exposition

• 10th Grade Science Research students exhibit their experiments during the school year. Teachers, parents, and students come to view the symposium of powerpoint presentations and poster boards

12. Annual Le Show

• This is a talent show exhibiting teacher and student artistic ability. Proceeds are used for student activities

13. Multicultural Day Food Court

• Edison students brought in dishes from their native countries
• Students and faculty purchased food from countries around the world during their lunch period. Proceeds were used for senior activities

14. Annual Hero/Shero Contest

• Celebrated during Black History Month, a contest is held to acknowledge those that have paved the way for African Americans today
• The contest awards contestants with three prizes starting from $75-$250

15. Annual Queens High School Fair

• Members of Edison’s Student Council represented the school in the November borough high school fair at Francis Lewis High School

16. Annual NYC High School Fair

• Members of Edison’s Student Council represented the school in the September citywide high school fair at Brooklyn Technical High School

17. Valentine’s Day

• Edison’s Student Council raised money by selling Valentine’s Day cards and plush toys.

• Edison’s National Honor Society raised money by selling holiday cards and candy canes during lunch periods.

1. National Honor Society

• The Edison chapter of the National Honor Society encourages scholastic achievement and excellence while providing valuable experiences for members to build and expand their leadership skills
• This prestigious organization participated in AIDS Walk New York, the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, Take Action NY: Volunteer at the Pier, Earth Day at Central Park, and the peer tutoring program.

2. Science Honor Society

• The New York State Science Honor Society is made up of Edison’s most elite students. The members are dedicated to persevere not only in school but in their communities as well.
• This year the Edison chapter of the Science Honor Society has volunteered at Margret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, St. Mary’s Children Hospital.

1. Global Outreach

• Members of Edison’s global outreach club raised awareness on world hunger, AIDS, climate change, and access to education in collaboration with Mercy Corps
• Sold awareness ribbons for twenty five cents each and wristbands for one dollar each to raise funds for AIDS research
• Held a school supplies drive to donate supplies to students suffering from Hurricane Katrina

2. Glamour Gals

• Edison students in Glamour Gals visit Margret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to provide residents with complementary makeovers
• The mission of Glamour Gals is foster intergenerational relationships between teens and elderly women, and to create compassionate young leaders.
• Edison students participated in an intergenerational photography workshop ,“Conversations in Beauty", aimed at exploring generational views of inner and outer beauty with Photographer Annie Levy.
