- Register (online) early for October or November SAT. Use college codes when registering- (one code for all CUNY colleges-2950).
- Extracurricular/community activities- Get involved! Develop your interest.
- Consider your responsibilities if applying Early Decision/ Early action see Ms. Spano immediately.
- College office provides SUNY applications and instructions for the ONLINE ONLY- CUNY application. YOU must write, call or use the Internet to request ALL other applications and catalogs.
- Begin drafts or essays.
- Plan college visits and interviews (remember thank you letters).
- Attend Edison's College Night.
October
- Review for SAT- take exam.
- Review your transcript for errors.
- Attend local college fairs.
- Ask teachers for recommendations begin filling out applications.
- Be aware of deadlines if applying Early Decision/Action. Edison College Office deadline is 10/19/09.
- Pick up CSS Financial Aid Form in college Office, if your colleges require it.
- Register for Dec SAT. Use college codes when registering- (one code for all CUNY colleges-2950).
- Finalize college list (between 5-7 choices).
- Attend Edison's Parent college Information Night.
November
- Take SAT. Be sure you used your colleges' codes to send scores.
- Keep organized and up to date!
- Submit completed applications, colleges/scholarship, with 2 unattached stamps to Ms. Funderburk-rm114b- pd. 2-6 only.
- Request information about scholarships and financial aid from your target colleges.
- Check/apply for private outside scholarships.
- Remember: college/ scholarship applications due to college office 2 weeks in advance of any deadline.
- Applications for highly selective colleges due to Ms. Funderburk before 11/18/09. List of highly selective colleges in college office.
December
- SAT - take exams/send scores.
- Finish all draft applications and essays.
- Submit ALL remaining applications to College Office - DEADLINE -12/05/2009 (suggested).
- Obtain FAFSA (Federal Financial Aid Form) from College Office.
- ALL ONLINE APPLICATIONS REQUIRE THAT YOU SUBMIT A TRANSCRIPT REQUEST ENVELOPE TO MS. FUNDERBURK -PD. 2-6 ONLY.
- Attend Edison's Financial Aid Night - 12/09/2008.
January
- File FAFSA form as soon as possible after January 1, 2010.
- Take SAT - if needed.
- If your college requests them, submit mid-year grade request forms and envelopes RM. 114B.
- KEEP COPIES OF EVERY FORM YOU SUBMIT.
- See Ms. Spano if you have not had your college interview.
February
- Check deadlines for A.P. exams.
- Be sure FAFSA form is completed and sent to Federal Government (suggested Deadline 2/13/2010).
- If planning to attend college in the state of NY - file a TAP application.
March
- Continue search for scholarships. Try places of worship, parents employers, and Web sites.
- Look for Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail. Contact your college's financial Aid office. Ask what else you need to do to maintain financial aid eligibility.
- HAND IN COPIES OF ALL OFFERS OF ADMISSION and SCHOLARSHIPS - ROOM 114B.
April
- Review college responses and aid offers with parents and counselors.
- Visit as many colleges as possible to make your final decision.
- Make final decision- send deposit by May 1st.
- Notify other schools that you will not be attending.
May
- A.P. exams.
- Fill out dorm forms.
- Check arrangements for any college loans.
- Send Original, signed SAR to your chosen college.
June
- Graduation!!
- Submit final transcript request envelopes for colleges which require them.
- Finalize summer plans.
