SUMMER READING PROJECT – ENGLISH

SENIORS – Advanced Placement Literature and Composition Class and Honors Classes

General Directions: Read two literary works of fiction and one nonfiction book from the list below, for a total of three books.  Be sure that you read titles listed for your grade level as of September; ask the librarian if you are unsure.  When reporting on your book, carefully follow the directions given for the system of reporting that your chose.

Due Date:  Your reports are due to your English teacher by Monday, September 10, 2012.  The mark you earn will count as ten points towards your first marking period report card grade.

Fiction

Directions for Fiction: Choose two titles that you have not previously read from the list below.  Read the works carefully, closely, and thoughtfully, looking up words with which you are unfamiliar.  In a three-page double-spaced essay, compare and contrast a major theme, or character or conflict in both works.  Maintain an ongoing record of new vocabulary words; include the word, part of speech, and definition.  This must be submitted with your essay.
